Since the inception of Canine Concern Scotland Trust in 1988, Nicholas Henley Price has worked tirelessly to ensure our strong foundations and ongoing success. At the grand age of 80 years, he has decided to retire.
More recent members may only have come across Nick in dealings with membership payments or expense claims as he is a man who prefers to work quietly and diligently behind the scenes. As widower of our Founder, the late Marjorie Henley Price, Nick has been Honorary Secretary to the Board and Treasurer all these years, as well as serving in other capacities.
Three years after their move to Machrihanish in Kintyre in 1995, Marjorie and Nick put together an application from CCST to the National Lottery Charities Board. This was for funding to set up an administration office for CCST in Campbeltown and the employment of an Administrator. The application was successful and the project went ahead relieving Marjorie of the day-to-day administration of the Trust for which she had been responsible since 1988. The project went well until 2002 when our Administrator, Lynsey Ramsay, announced that for family reasons she was resigning. By then Nick had retired from one of his part-time jobs. After much discussion, it was decided, with the agreement of the Trustees, that Nick should take on the role of a paid part-time Administrator, working from home. For ten years this proved to be a very successful arrangement.
After Marjorie died in 2012 Nick continued as Administrator, as well as Secretary and Treasurer, until 2013 when he moved to Edinburgh and established a new office. Lesley Bird was appointed Administrator in his place. Nick continued as Secretary & Treasurer on a voluntary basis.
At a meeting of Trustees in September 2015, it was decided that as part of development plans, the post of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) should be created. It was agreed that Nick be appointed, in a voluntary capacity, in addition to his other voluntary roles. The Trustees recorded that it was intended that, when possible, the posts of CEO and of Secretary and Treasurer should be filled by separate people. Hence, a new CEO was appointed with effect from 1st January 2020.
With a background in finance, Nick’s ongoing guidance, leadership, strategic oversight, and financial experience have allowed the charity to make sound decisions in our development. Since 2012 Nick has supported our ongoing work enabling CCST to become the well-established charity it is today. Nick has always been passionate about the charity’s objectives, ensuring that the focus is always fixed on Marjorie’s original aims. Beyond his ongoing roles of Secretary & Treasurer he has also been our consultant on historical issues and developmental needs, and mentor to the staff and current CEO. His input has been sought in many areas as the charity has progressed, and this is something that will be greatly missed.
We want to express our gratitude for the mammoth amount of work Nick has undertaken over the decades, although it really cannot be fully communicated in words. We hope he has a long and happy retirement enjoying golf (and hopefully writing his memoirs of our history!) and know that he will retain an interest in what we do.
Nick is finalising our annual report and accounts for 2025 before he signs off completely, but handed over the reins of Secretary and Treasurer to Nicola Connor on 1st January 2026.
