Dear Volunteers, Members and Friends
We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of our colleague, Norma Hill, who died peacefully at home on 6th March.
Norma has worked in the CCST Office as part of the Administration Team, since 2014 where she was responsible for dealing with registering volunteers, enquiries and issuing certificates and medals for long service.
Norma loved to be kept busy, and she would go out of her way to help others. For several years she visited as a Therapet® volunteer with a friend’s dog, Luna, and later with her own dog, Preston, who is Luna’s son. She was diagnosed with cancer last year, and forced to slow down for treatment which she found incredibly difficult. She came into work as and when she felt able and needed the psychological comfort of ‘normality’ and we supported her as much as she would allow! Her wicked sense of humour, visits to various charity shops and subsequent selling sprees on eBay, along with her love for her dog and cat provided us with many discussion points and much hilarity, despite the sad circumstances she was facing.
As many of you know, our colleague Carole is Norma’s sister and she has been with Norma throughout this last year supporting her and caring for her in her final weeks.
This has been a huge emotional rollercoaster for Carole, and we ask for your kind support for her when she returns to work and over the coming months as she adjusts. Our colleague Lesley has also known Norma since their now adult children played together as youngsters, so this is a tough time for our small admin team.
Norma’s wishes were that she wanted a small private family service, and this will take place on 19th March. We will have our own celebration of Norma’s life and the joy that she brought to so many. Norma’s family is very grateful to the support received from the medical professionals, the team at Maggie’s, and the staff at St Columba’s Hospice, whose combined efforts allowed Norma to remain comfortable at home, and to be with her son Jonathon, sister Carole, cat Blue Eyes, and dog Preston, when she passed. Therapet® Preston was fulfilling his role during that time and continues to do so now supporting Carole.
We understand you may wish to pass on your condolences but politely ask that you do not email or call in regarding this. If you wish to do so, cards may be sent to the office and we will pass these on to Carole. The office is currently short staffed and trying to stay on top of everything, and we ask for your patience at this time.
Your donations large or small help us on our way. The amazing things happen here are down to you!
